01 / The essentials

What is photobiomodulation?

Photobiomodulation, often called PBM or red light therapy, uses selected wavelengths of light in a treatment setting.

Device design, wavelength, dose and treatment purpose all matter. The care team can explain the exact device and protocol used at Benessair.

02 / Is it right for you?

Three details worth understanding.

Red light therapy at Benessair
Consider the treatment.
Consider your circumstances.
01

The purpose

Ask which specific concern is being addressed, and what a realistic result would look like.

02

The device

Ask about the equipment, its intended use and whether the evidence relates to that device and protocol.

03

The plan

Clarify the session schedule, total cost and how a response would be evaluated before buying a package.

03 / Evidence & expectations

Research varies by application.

Evidence for one device or condition should not be generalized to whole-body rejuvenation, improved cognition or longer life. Red light research continues, and long-term effects for some uses remain uncertain.

Education, with context. Suitability, risks and expected results require an individual assessment.

04

Report changes

05 / Before you decide

Risks. Precautions.
Your questions.

Your clinician should explain the risks that matter for the exact treatment being considered.

01

Light sensitivity

Tell the team about photosensitivity and medicines or products that make you more sensitive to light.

02

Skin and eye protection

Ask about protection and precautions for your skin type and the device being used. Report irritation or discomfort.

03

Appropriate assessment

A symptom such as persistent pain should be assessed before choosing a treatment. Light therapy should not delay needed medical care.

07 / Common questions

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Is red light the same as ultraviolet light?
No. Red light and ultraviolet light occupy different parts of the spectrum. That distinction alone does not establish that a particular treatment is right for you.
Does FDA clearance mean every advertised benefit is proven?
No. Ask about the device’s specific regulatory status and intended use. A broad wellness claim needs its own evidence.
How long is a session?
Timing depends on the device, protocol and assessment. Confirm the current arrangement with the practice.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Ask your clinician whether a combination is appropriate. Adding therapies does not automatically improve results.
